It’s unfortunate that when I think of the Vélodrome d’Hiver, I don’t think of all the exciting & amazing cycling events that took place there. For me, the Vel’ d’Hiv will forever be remembered for the horrific events that took place in Jul 1942, the systematic round-up & imprisonment of thousands of French Jews. The conditions in the Vélodrome were deplorable.

Thanks for posting these photos, it really makes one think.

I’m struck by how much some of the art seems to anticipate the cyclists of The Triplets of Belville. I wonder if someone had this book in their youth, or on their shelf. . .
